The Athens is our panelled women's biker trouser. Instead of a plain two-piece leg, the pattern splits the leg into shaped sections with seams at the knee and along the thigh, which is what allows a close-fitting leather trouser to bend properly. It is how motorcycle leathers have always been cut, and it is the reason these are comfortable to sit down in when a plain leather trouser is not.

Why panelling matters

Leather does not stretch. In a close-fitting trouser that becomes a problem the moment you bend a knee, because the material has to come from somewhere. A plain skinny leather trouser solves it either by being loose enough not to be skinny, or by pulling uncomfortably every time you sit.

Panelling solves it properly. Splitting the leg into shaped pieces builds the shape of a bent leg into the pattern from the start, so the trousers sit close without restricting. It also stops the knee bagging out over time, which is what happens to a plain leather trouser after a year.

Construction

Seams are stitched flat and topstitched, which is both structural and part of how the trousers look — the panel lines are visible and give them their character. Every seam is reinforced, since a panelled trouser puts load on more joins than a plain one.

The waistband is faced with a zip fly and belt loops. Ankles are cut narrow to sit inside a boot.

Fit and sizing

The fit is close. Take your normal size and go up rather than down if you are between sizes, since there is no stretch in the material. If you have a fuller calf or a higher instep, choose Custom and say so — we will adjust the ankle opening.

Hang them by the waistband rather than folding. Leather relaxes slightly at the knee with wear and recovers when hung.

Styling

What size should I order?

Your normal size, sizing up rather than down if you are between. Custom sizing is free and worth taking on a close cut.

Will they fit inside boots?

Yes, the ankles are cut narrow for that. Tell us on a Custom order if you have a higher instep.
